Arizona Licensing Requirements
Arizona requires all dispensing opticians to hold an active license from the Arizona State Board of Dispensing Opticians. The requirements are straightforward and align with national standards.
Must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or GED.
Complete one of the following:
- Associate Degree: 2-year program in Ophthalmic Dispensing from an accredited institution
- Apprenticeship: 2 years (4,000 hours) of supervised training under a licensed optician or optometrist
Pass both national certification exams:
Spectacle dispensing competency
Contact lens fitting and dispensing
Fee: $75 per exam
