RI Licensing Requirements
Rhode Island Board of Opticianry requires all dispensing opticians to hold an active license.
At least 18 years old with high school diploma or GED.
Complete one of:
- Associate Degree: 2-year AAS in Ophthalmic Dispensing
- Apprenticeship: 2 years (4,000 hours) supervised training
Pass both national exams:
125 questions, 70% pass, $75

Complete AAS in Ophthalmic Dispensing from COA-accredited program.
